 Recap of Events

August 28: Pentatonix at Ravinia Festival organized by Barb Yong

On Monday August 28th, 14 EPWNG members shared a lovely evening of good food, wonderful music and great networking at Ravinia Park. We were treated to almost 2 hours of a cappella music by Pentatonix.  Their 5 talented singers cover both classics and original songs using nothing but their voices.   They are known for their exceptional harmonies and amazing percussion.

The evening was organized by Barb Yong.  "I had no idea how popular Pentatonix is.  Not only did we sell all of our tickets, but the concert was completely sold out,"she said.   Barb did a great job selecting a place for us to meet and securing enough lawn space for all of us to bring our own lawn chairs and to share a rented table.

"If you've ever been to Ravinia, you know how glorious it can be when the weather is just right. We had one of those nights," says attendee Kelly Luchtman.  While this is the first time EPWNG has hosted an event at Ravinia, the members who attended all agreed we should plan similar events in the future.

Platinum Perspective

 Robin Wilson
Real Estate Broker and Private Investor @Properties Residential Sales

If it falls under "Real Estate", Robin Wilson does it. "I operate a real estate company that aids buyers & sellers, landlords & tenants, and also investors of real estate by identifying, procuring, improving & then managing the real estate for those investors," Robin explains.  She's had the property bug since she graduated from college. With a $5,000 initial investment from her parents, Robin acquired 2 rental properties by the time she was 24.  Still, Robin admits that, "With every property, with every client, with every renovation - you learn something you wish you had known before."

In real estate, the fast pace, the juggling, and dealing with the unexpected all fire Robin up.  She likes to know the lingo of the other real estate trades, like financing, contractors and lawyers, so that she can make a great deal for her client that also feels like a win for the other side of the table.  Working in residential real estate means dealing with the general public, and she never knows who will walk through her door, "so you learn to be a chameleon in order to work with all types of people, and you keep your political/religious opinions to yourself and do the job at hand."

About EPWNG she says, "[It] is an amazing network of like-minded forward thinking and empathetic/encouraging women.  The invincible Wendy Baum has lit a flame that continues to burn and spark professional women to band together for empowerment & to grow their resources." We couldn't agree more.

Bonus Tip: If you want to get into the property game in 2018, Robin believes that "investors can secure amazing real estate investment deals because the cost of borrowing money is so low.  Rentals will continue to be a good play for investors.  For the aging population, people will look for ranch homes so they can age in place."

New Event!

EPWNG is excited to introduce a new event: The EPWNG Roundtable. The Roundtable is a social event with focused conversation on a business topic. This will not be a presentation, but rather a conversation among attendees that is moderated by the host of the event, who is an expert in the issue at hand. Topics will be bite-sized, so that you can walk away with meaningful action steps.  Pick each other's brains and take advantage of having an expert at the table, all while you enjoy food, beverage and a casual atmosphere. Our Inaugural Roundtable is Tea at the Palmer House on October 6, hosted by Trisha Daho. The topic is, "Sales and Networking Conversations That Get Results." We hope to see you there!
